Learning continued right up until the holiday break! Pictured left are three of our Medical Assisting juniors who, with their class, created "Nelson the Nervous System". The completion of this project required collaboration with the Carpentry program who etched the human form on plywood for students to then diagram the nervous system.

This month we begin a series to highlight Tri-County's core values, embedded in TCPRIDE: Trust, Character, Professionalism, Responsibility, Integrity, Dedication and Empowerment. During January, faculty will take the opportunity to make connections in their curriculum and student reflections to the core value of trust. At the end of the month, vocational teachers will be asked to nominate a student who exemplifies this core value across the four grades in their programs.

Ms. Magas is back after 10 weeks with the NASA program in Houston, living in a space simulator! Shortly after "coming back to earth", Ms. Magas had a Zoom reunification with students where they could ask many questions about her experience. We are pleased to have her back to her Engineering instructional duties here at TC!

Grade 9 students have completed the exploratory process and are eagerly awaiting their shop placements. This information will be made available to students on the evening of Thursday, January 9. Students will be able to log into their Power School account to find their placement.

Senior Parents! Where does the time go? It's hard to believe that we are nearly at the mid-year point. At this time, every student has a cap and gown ordered and a name submitted for their diploma. In the march towards graduation, your seniors should be focused on their grades and attendance. These are two of the most essential graduation criteria; in addition, for some students, grades and attendance may qualify them to be exempted from senior finals. March 7 marks the end of Trimester 2 and in Trimester 3 there are only 5 weeks of academics before finals. Please see the senior finals tab on the website for more information.

On Friday morning, January 3, the school community paused instruction to review with students both our school appropriate language and cell phone policies. The school appropriate language policy, often referred to here as SAL, is a reminder to students to monitor their language and choice of words. Effective communication is an essential employability skill for preparing students for professional careers and higher education. The cell phone policy is an off and away policy, wherein students should not be on their phones in the classroom or in the hallways during class.
A quick reminder as cold and flu season is upon us: Excuse notes are accepted for 7 days following a student's absence.
Finally, for parents wondering what the implication for Tri-County will be with the statewide vote which removes graduation as an MCAS requirement, the leadership team will be submitting a proposal to the School Committee over the next few months for what will qualify as a competency determination for graduation.
